With the warmer months upon us I thought I would revisit my post from last year on outdoor play. Whether a day in the backyard or a few hours by the beach these tips will help you keep your baby safe and healthy.
1. Remember to bring fresh room temperature drinking water and a bowl so that your dog can have something to drink. If you are thirsty your dog probably is too.
2. If it is really hot a spray bottle or hose or swimming area is important to keep your dog cool. For long coat dogs or really fluffy ones one way to keep them cooler is to spray them with water before playing outside.
3. Make sure the pavement is not too hot for their little paws. On very hot days I will reach down and touch the ground to make sure Davinia and Indiana will not burn their paws.
4. Find some shade to rest under or bring a pop-up tent or umbrella so that there is some shade to relax and cool off under.
5. Ice is a fun snack! But frozen bananas or any kind of melon from the fridge is actually better for their tummies to help them cool off.
6. After a day at the beach or a long walk make sure your little dog is no longer panting heavily and gums are no longer bright red before feeding a meal or treat- water yes dinner no.
7. Remember the hottest most direct sunlight occurs between 11am and 4pm if possible plan your outdoor adventures before or after these times.
8. Do not allow your dog to run loose in an insecure area. If you have never been somewhere with your dog before leave them on a longer leash to explore the area but do not let them run free.
9. After the long winter of snow, ice, and rain be sure to check your fence line for any new holes or uneven areas and fill them in before you allow your dog to be off leash even in your own backyard.
10. Never ever leave your dog in the car with the air off and the windows up for any amount of time.

Your hot water tips are great. Pugs and bulldogs and other bracyhy beeds are espcially susceptable to heat.
Unfortunately I cant get the linky tool to work quite right on on blog, Ive doe it before so Im not sure whats up.

Great tips! We live in a very hot and humid area in NC, and fortunately do have a human pool that only two of our rescued English Springer Spaniels venture into on their own accord. One believes she's an Olympic swimmer, while the other only goes in to cool himself off. The other two must be encouraged, or we hold them in our arms with a funoodle in front of them, so they can balance easier and feel safe. We keep ice handy for crunching, and also keep a puppy pool on the deck and toss ice into it, often. Fresh water is always available and mist them when needed, too. We have canine sunscreen. but admittedly aren't quite in the habit of using it. We are careful about checking the hot pavement, decking, concrete around the pool and brick pavers. We'll hose down the deck and use our irrigation system to cool off the concrete and bricks, too. We make sure our yard inside and outside the fence in always safe. We never allow them to run loose, or go off leash in any area besides our fenced yard. We're careful about what time we walk them. In the summer their “fun walk” is often done at night. So, I'm happy that you have such a comprehensive “check list” compiled to help me gauge what my hubby and I do for our dogs. We passed, but one can never be too careful. We watch for intruders such as bees, snakes, horse flies — anything that curt our furkids.
